Etang Rouge is an intimate pre-Napoleonic lake of just 2.5 acres, which ideally can accommodate 3 anglers who have a choice of 4 swims. The Fishery is situated in the beautiful Dordogne countryside, part of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central south-west France. Carp to 68lb.
Etang Rouge is owned and managed by Jeff and Shan. Jeff has been an avid angler all his life and fished for carp on many UK and European waters for the past 35 years.
The lake and its facilities allow for both serious carpers and pleasure anglers alike, so whether you are looking to bivvy up and fish hard for the week or enjoy a week’s fishing with the family, Etang Rouge’s stunning looking, hard fighting French carp will not disappoint any angler who enjoys the challenge of man verses fish. Jeff and Shan are fantastic hosts who want everyone to be blown away by everything that Etang Rouge has to offer compared to the usual weeks fishing in France, so anglers have the option of a drive and survive weeks fishing, through to a fully catered for week in this beautiful part of the French countryside.
Etang Rouge will not be for you if your idea of a French fishing holiday involves too much alcohol and more partying than fishing. We do want all our anglers to have the best possible time and provide high speed WiFi in all swims & full satellite tv package including all sports channels.
As Etang Rouge is off the beaten track, you will not hear road noise, be bothered by the public or have any worry about your safety or property, as well as having the very real opportunity of seeing deer, badgers, coypu, gennet (wild cat), pine martin, osprey, buzzards and even wild boar when sitting next to your rods or enjoying a cold beer or a bottle of wine in the Anglers Rest.

We have recently returned from Etang Rouge and I am glad to say it was a trip to remember. We had 12 hard fighting carp to just over 50lb between 2 of us. The lake is picturesque and the equipment provided first class. Geoff is in hand … More to give you advice and share a beer or glass of red wine and the home cooked food provided by him and Sharn is wonderful. There secret ingredient is there ability to interact with you it’s not just a fishing break you make friends for life. Great memories

After my mates successful visited in early 2024, it looked so great so I booked it for 2025. I visited in May this year (2025) and it was truly brilliant. Hosts Jeff and Shan are so welcoming and looked after us daily. The venue is so peaceful … More compared to my home town so I slept well! It’s completely private, safe and well kept land and lake. Rules fair/respectful. Food great! We paid all in for the food package.. meaning each morning Jeff or Shan bought down breakfast rolls, lunch baguettes and for dinner we reeled in at sat together every evening for good conversations and great food. Anything not stocked in the clubhouse, we requested and Jeff sorted us out. Beers, snacks, the lot. Now for the fishing.. Jeff knows his lake. So if he recommends spots/swims and tactics, I would listen as on our visit, the weather was not good to us BUT we followed his advise and we succeeded greatly. I caught my first pb in peg 1 weighing a whopping 41LB then I moved over to peg 4 where I beat that pb weighing in at 45lb! I caught others but not beating those weights. My mate beat his pb from previous year with a 52Lb mirror.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Etang Rouge, I would recommend and I will most definitely be returning. Thanks Jeff & Shan for putting up with me 😄😅 we’ll keep in touch and I’ll see you again I’m sure… I need to beat my pb 😉 -

Bar with beer soft drinks and snacks all at very reasonable prices. There is a well stocked tackle and bait shop for all your needs. The setting of this fishery is just stunning set in rolling French countryside so peaceful with lots of wildlife . The lake is fantastic and stocked with fantastic well looked after carp and the kit you hire is fantastic well maintained, Jeff is on hand 24/7 to offer advice and tips to help you in those difficult times the pegs are immaculate. All in all we had an amazing week with 6 fish between us in testing conditions . One 30 two 40s and 3 fifty’s!!!!!!! Thank you Jeff and Shan for an amazing week and for your company, laughs and red wine !!!!! Which sometimes made the bait boat deployment a little difficult!!!! We have just come back from our week long fishing trip to Etang Rouge, and what a week!
Last couple of days were very quiet on the fish front, but I could never have expected to land the newly named Boris at 64lb 12oz, which I’m sure will … More soon go over 70lb! Watch this space!!
The experience:
After you are collected from the airport and driven to the fishery, Jeff will then offer you a drink and take you around the facilities, which includes the ‘Anglers Rest’ which has a dart board and pool table, toilet and shower, as well as a nice decking area to chill out on, and of course, the lake, showing you all of the likely fish spots in each peg and swim, once you’ve the chosen your peg to fish he will then hand you all the rods and alarms to use - one thing is that you must use the PB hit and run safety leaders so would recommend you purchase before you go, but he does have them along with other bits of end tackle to buy.
He will let you use your own kit, he supplies ATT alarms, buzz bars, NGT rods, and Shimano baitrunner reels, all in great nick and more than good enough to handle those lumps!
Bivvies are decent, as well as the bed and chair, nice and comfortable.
The pegs are nicely laid out along one side of the lake and are bedded down in gravel, so you don't get muddy when it’s wet, and there are solar powered lights in each swim which is a nice touch.
Breakfast and lunch are delivered to your swim each morning / afternoon , and the evening meal is served at the anglers rest - the food is great, you won’t be disappointed!
As the week goes on any drinks and snack items you buy will go on your peg bill and is settled at the end of the week, id recommended budgeting €200 - €400 for the peg bill, depending on what you buy and how many beers you drink! Or if you hire a bait boat etc.
So, if you want a great all inclusive weeks fishing in France, look these guys up.
Jeff and Shan are fantastic hosts, offer up great food and plenty of drink! 😵💫, in an idyllic location. No brainer!

Just back from 7 days at this fantastic venue.... stunning lake, awesome fish and amazing hosts..... Thank you Jeff and Shan.... For mid October and changeable weather, I caught over 200lb of hard fighting carp.... biggest 52lb and a new … More personal best. Facilities and food are the best i've had on a fishing break....... I'll be back and I'd suggest you check out the website and pay this place a visit. Check out the photos and their facebook page to see the fish and facilities!
Our nearest town is St-Yrieix-la-Perche which benefits from 4 large supermarkets, numerous cafés, restaurants and boulangeries, as well as a very efficient and modern hospital.
The large cities in the area include Limoges (to the north), Brive (to the south) and Périgueux (south west) which are all within 1 hours drive time from the lake, as well as Burgundy (1 hour 20 minutes) and Bordeaux (2 hours 20 minutes by car or 1 hour 15 minutes by train), which are both to the west. Airports include Limoges, Brive and Perigeux and the drive time from Calais is between 6.5 to 7 hours (dependent on how many times you stop for a coffee and leg stretch!) if you take the paege motorways.
The Dordogne is blessed with the ideal weather for big, hard fighting carp and enjoys long summers with lots of sunshine. The climate also provides fantastic fishing all year round, especially in the spring and autumn when the temperatures can be more forgiving for those who don’t like too much sun! Winters are shorter and not as cold as more northern parts of Europe but can also be wet which is why the Dordogne and Haute Vienne Departments of France are so green and fertile.
